DAMEN mainly active in ship design, shipbuilding and repair & conversion. Damen Shipyards has a history in innovating and disrupting the market, not in the least with its disruptive business model of speculatively building standardised workboats on stock, a model later successfully copied to many other vessel types such as ferries, patrol vessels, offshore support vessels and even yachts. The Damen group delivers some 220 vessels a year and has 200 hulls on stock. The building of series of standardised vessels creates an unequalled opportunity to do research, which has led to many other innovations such as the sea axe hull shape for high speed crafts or the two proprietary air lubrication systems developed in collaboration with TU Delft and MARIN.
