Description

ATENA, which stands for High Technology for Energy and Environment, is a Research and Technology Hub composed of Universities, Research Institutes, and Private Company mainly based in the Campania Region of Italy. ATENA High Tech District was founded in December 2014. Companies, universities and research institutions work together on collaborative projects co-funded under Horizon 2020 research programs of both European Commission and Italian Government.

ATENA aims to go beyond the state of the art developing the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET). ATENA ambition is to introduce radically new lines of technology through unexplored collaborations between advanced multidisciplinary science and cutting-edge energy engineering. ATENA activity will be mainly focused on radically new energy Conversion and Storage devices and systems: disruptive technologies aiming at a paradigm shift in renewable energy by exploring and exploiting radically new principles and novel materials that can substantially reduce Europe’s dependence on fossil fuels and open new industrial opportunities for their exploitation and sustainable development.

ATENA is a network of companies, universities and research institutions:
SME and Big Industries – AET Sas, C.E.A. Spa, CERTITEC Scarl, COELMO Spa, GRADED Spa, GREEN ENERGY PLUS Srl, IURO Srl, MECOSER SISTEMI Spa, MERIDIONALE IMPIANTI Spa, PROTOM GROUP Spa, RES NOVA DIE Srl, SRS ENGINEERING DESIGN Srl, SUDGEST Scarl, TECHNOVA Scarl, SOL GROUP Spa.
Research Institutions – CRdC TECNOLOGIE Scarl and ENEA.

Universities – University of Napoli Parthenope, University of Perugia, University of Sannio, University of Salerno, University of Pisa, University of Genova.

ATENA main research and development activities are: innovative, efficient, clean and secure technologies for mobile applications; poligeneration systems based on fuel cells and hydrogen technologies; electric energy storage systems to optimize the use of renewable energy sources; biotechnology and systems for CO2 capture and storage; development of bio-conversion technologies for the exploitation of biomass based microbial fuel cells. ATENA is involved in several national and international projects through its own members, acting both as a simple partner and as a coordinator, as in the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), H2020 programme and national project funded by Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) and Ministry of economic development (MISE).

ATENA has large experience in fuel cell systems for transport, stationary and maritime applications: fuel cell systems engineering and design, fuel cell systems validation and integration. Several prototypes has been already designed and realized: FC bike, FC scooter, FC commercial vehicle with an innovative hydrogen storage solution of metal hydrides, t. Moreover.

ATENA is working to the design and integration of a FC system on a Yard Tractor for RO-RO operation in port in H2Ports project.

ATENA developed and patented a Hybrid Energy Storage System for Stationary, Mobile and Propulsive Applications in 2019.

ATENA linked third parties involved in this project are: ENEA and University of Naples “Parthenope”
